Rain has failed to quell Canadian wildfires, and more smoky haze is on the way

Wed, 2023-06-28 18:38 — mike kraft
Rain has failed to quell Canadian wildfires, and more smoky haze is on the way, officials say Canadian officials say a large amount of rain in Quebec in recent days didn’t fall in the areas where there wildfires are most active and they expect air quality to remain a concern through the summer, as long as the fires continue. AP News

...

Drifting smoke from the wildfires has lowered curtains of haze on broad swaths of Canada and the United States, pushing into southern Illinois, Indiana and Ohio, and moving into parts of West Virginia.

Smoky haze blanketing US and Canada could last into the weekend

Thu, 2023-06-08 10:40 — mike kraft
Smoky haze blanketing US and Canada could last into the weekend With weather systems expected to hardly budge, the smoky blanket billowing across the U.S. and Canada from wildfires in Quebec and Nova Scotia should persist into Thursday and possibly the weekend. That means at least another day, or more, of a dystopian-style detour that’s chased players from ballfields, actors from Broadway stages, delayed thousands of flights, and sparked a resurgence in mask wearing and remote work — all while raising concerns about the health effects of prolonged exposure to such bad air.
