District of Columbia Mayor Signs 50% Renewable Energy Standard

utilitydive.com - by Robert Walton - July 26, 2016

Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) has signed legislation to push the nation's capital towards 50% renewable energy within the next 15 years, a goal she says will increase residents' access to clean energy while also creating jobs and new businesses.

The goal includes promises to serve 100,000 low-income residents with solar energy by 2032 and reduce their power bills by 50%.

To meet anticipated demand for solar energy, the city has partnered on a jobs program to provide District young adults with paid training in solar panel installation, energy efficiency, and basic safety and construction skills.

Gov. Cuomo’s Plan To Use Clean Water Funds For Tappan Zee Bridge OK’d

ALBANY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) — Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s plan to use clean water funds on the new Tappan Zee Bridge was approved Wednesday by a key state board despite objections from environmental groups that said the money should support drinking water and sewer treatment projects.

The $256 million loan from the clean water fund would help pay for the $3.9 billion span being built north of New York City. Cuomo’s administration argues the novel use of the funds would help minimize the cost of tolls on the new bridge and pay for work associated with the construction that would protect the Hudson River Valley.

Subject: Stop Unfair NYC  Property Tax Increases Now

Hi Neighbors

We created a petition to NYC Commissioner of Finance, Beth E. Goldman, City Councilman Alan Maisel, NYC Mayor Bill deBlasio:

"We, a coalition of Canarsie homeowners, tenants paying property taxes and purchasers hereby request:(1) NYC Department of Finance to lower assessed tax rate and (2) outreach to taxpayers by suspending the placement of property tax liens on property owners financially impaired by sewage back-ups and by the devastation of Superstorm Sandy. We ask that property owners   be given more time and the opportunity to make reasonable payment arrangements. We encourage Canarsie property owners or their designated representative to contest property tax increases by March 17, 2014. Please sign this petition and submit Grievance Form  RF-524 to NYC Dept of Finance./Office of Real Property Services."
